A Life Shaped
by Words

Originally from South Africa, Caroline Avnit has written poetry and fiction since childhood, driven by a lifelong fascination with human connection and the search for meaning and belonging.

With a background in Psychology and Comparative Religious Studies, her work explores the intersection of relationships, nature, and the beauty found in the simplest moments of everyday life.

In 2021, she discovered the historic town of Stamford, Lincolnshire during a train journey and knew she had found home. She now lives there with her husband, two daughters, and a French Bulldog.

As a Christian, Caroline is passionate about prayer and believes her calling is to encourage others to deepen their relationship with God. She combines her love of words with writing prayers that speak to the heart.

I feel so grateful to have been chosen as the Poet Laureate of Stamford. I absolutely love our beautiful town and am passionate about promoting it.

Her Inspiration

Rooted in
Stamford

Caroline's journey to Stamford was serendipitous. She had planned to travel in early 2020, but when the world changed, so did her path. After spending time in London, Edinburgh, and other cities across the UK, she discovered Stamford by train in October 2021.

The beauty of this historic Lincolnshire town captivated her immediately, and she knew she had found the place she wanted to call home. It was through Stamford Arts Centre's "Pint of Poetry" evenings — held the last Wednesday of each month — that she found her community.

Her poetry draws deeply from the landscapes, seasons, and spirit of Stamford and the English countryside, while carrying the warmth and perspective of her South African roots.
